Reading rhythm

Same words, three layouts. I care a lot about how easy something is to read.

Compact
A narrow column with closely spaced lines.
Balanced
A medium-width column with a little more space between lines.
Open
A wider column with more space between lines.
Reading rhythm

A narrow column means you reach the end of each line sooner. A wider one asks your eyes to travel farther. Line spacing changes how easily you find where the next line begins.

The same words can feel different with a little more room. A comfortable rhythm lets the reader settle into the text without losing their place.

Balanced: up to 60 characters per line, with 1.35× line spacing.
